GARDENINGBOTANICAL GARDENS. The Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, are open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Enjoy summer in the shade at the Botanical Gardens. Visitors are encouraged to bring a breakfast picnic and enjoy the shade of the grapefruit arbor and the huge mesquite trees. The Tropical Exhibit is a great place to see tropical fish and blooming exotic plants; and there is something blooming all summer long. The gardens celebrate Father's Day with free admission for all visitors on Sunday, June 15. Regular admission to the gardens is $4, $3 for seniors, and free for members and children under 12. The Casa del Agua is a demonstration and education project operated by Arid Lands Studies at the University of Arizona. It's a demonstration and education project that includes information about indoor water conservation, xeriscape, rainwater harvesting, and graywater systems. Free tours are offered on the hour from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays, excluding holidays. Call 887-1185 to arrange for special student and group presentations.

Native Seeds/Search gardener Henry Soto for a look at the traditional
southwestern gardening practices in a hands-on way, with the following
three Saturday workshops: Garden Bed Preparation and Planting,
including soil analysis, preparation of soil, composting, garden
layout, seed selection, and growing seasons, meets on June 14;
Caring for Plants takes a closer look at bed maintenance,
seed starting, planting, transplanting, fertilizing, irrigating,
crops, and pest and weed control on June 21; and Harvesting,
Seed Cleaning & Storage concludes the series on June 28.
This workshop will cover growing plants for seeds, keeping seedlines
pure, harvesting, seed cleaning and drying, storage, and seed
evaluation. Workshops meet from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Sylvester
House Annex, 2130 N. Alvernon Way. Cost is $20 per workshop, $50
for all three for members, $25 per workshop and $60 for all three
