Here we go again. Blindly leaning into the wind and hearing "friendly" voices. John Munger? Do you actually KNOW anything about John? Before you blithely cast your mental support and residual vote for him, do some homework! Gabrielle? A nice young girl who is a nice young girl. She should be at home lighting the candles for her astronaut instead of pretending to know what's happening in Congress. Pleeeze. It's time to put a Republican in that chair. She's simply the traditional "rubber stamp" in Congress and that's no help at all. Steve Farley? What has he accomplished except acquire the disdain of his own party regulars for advocating and stubbornly supporting "stupid people tricks" in an attempt to appear to be a bright activist. Let's get some people in there who really know what's going on and are not just getting involved because they want to play politician. Where are all the professionals? Even the bad ones would be better than "Amateur Night at the Roxy."

Why is this so confusing to the citizens of Marana? They're obviously unaware of the way in which our elected "representatives" work. They're elected but they're never really our "representatives" until it's time to be re-elected. The same is true for Tucson and all municipalities. In Tucson, we had an election that threw out one of the council members. Guess what? She was allowed to come back the day before her replacement was to be installed so she could vote FOR an issue to which the majority of our neighborhoods were opposed. Her vote was determined to be crucial to pass the measure created by a small group of activist neighbors. Does this make sense? On her way out she was going to be allowed to stab the neighborhoods in the back as an act of revenge for being removed from office by -- voters! What's wrong with this picture?! Yet, she was outraged that, while on vacation, the basic issue was modified slightly, without her knowledge, by the council, thus making her vote unnecessary. She went ballistic! And remember that this attitude was displayed the day before her replacement was to be installed! What arrogance! That's the image of our elected "representatives." Marana officials are no different. The next time there's an election, get anybody who can vote to throw them out so you can install folks who are dedicated to residents first and process second.

Very focused on the facts and not "opinion" pieces like we usually see from the Tucson reporters. A lot of this information was new to me. I thought Pima has corrupt board members...I guess the city of Marana has outdone us.

I live near the shop in question. At our neighborhood meeting last Tuesday, Mr. Tehrani sent two employees to inform us that he (Tehrani) said there is no problem, he would do nothing we wanted but would sue a number of the residents individually. All Coffee X Changes are owned by Tehrani, as is Club DV8. I called John Munger's office and no one there knows about a law suit and yes they do still represent Tehrani. Other local businesses do not present these problems. Thanks for the support and ideas.

Within the next several days I hope to speak to the Somos Neighborhood Association for the purposes of outlining several courses of action to take, to address the legitimate community concerns and resolve the issue.
I dont understand one thing. I thought there was more than one Coffee X change in tucson. Isnt this a chain? Isn't there someone higher than Tehrani that you can complain to? Or are they all individually owned and managed stores?

How are all the other 24 hour restaurants handling all these? There are mexican restaurants and other restaurants that are 24 hours, cars going in and out, have patios, people hanging out, etc.

What is the city going to do to address these issues in the future? I mean tucson is expanding and some businesses are moving towards 24 hour service.
For years I lived next to the nightclub he owns on East Speedway. It was awful. The city councilwoman called meetings and wrote letters to no avail. Tehrani yelled at me, called me filthy names. I tolerated all kinds of havoc from the club, from gang fights, gun fire, drugs, people parking up and down my street. The base on the music pierced my head and ultimately damaged my eardrum. Finally, one night TPD monitored the base on the music and immediately declared the base too high and also butted head with him, but prevailed. That was a blessing, for I had tried pillows on my head, sleeping in the floor, but base travels in a straight line and came right on through. [Let me state, it was affecting other neighbors, also, as it was me.] We got permit parking signs on the street so TPD could ticket the vehicles. That worked for the vehicles. Businesses next door had trouble with trash on their property and vehicles entering the club behind their businesses and knocking down the block wall that had been put up to keep the cars from their parking lot. It was one big mess. I even pursued the owner of the building, and that was useless. Finally, it started getting better. Don't know what happened, unless some of the crime issues caused a slowdown. It was a terrible. You have my blessings with the coffee shop, and be thankful you do not live near a nightclub. I miss my home; finally moved.

Thanks for a great article! This is my third year as a Wrimo, and I love this program. In 2007 I didn't hear about till mid-month, so I finished my novel in two weeks. I don't remember when I finished last year, but this year I finished in about two-and-a-half weeks. I use NaNoWriMo to pace myself, making sure other work is caught up and I've got a plot pretty well outlined by November. My husband cooks Thanksgiving dinner, and eating is my reward for writing 50,000+ words, and maybe even getting started on the editing process. (March is NaNoEdMo, by the way.)
Thanks to Irene Mussina for the article and to Alison Davison for sitting for it. The Southern Arizona Gender Alliance (SAGA), associated with Wingspan, is one of the premiere groups of its kind in the country. Alison is a good leader for an outfit that serves as a resource to the rest of the country. She is also a role model for playing the cards you got with intelligence, strength, and humor. Kudos to SAGA for its work.

Customer service needs improvement both at the box office and concession stand. The supervisor of the concession stand was too busy sitting on the counters eating Cheetos and talking to an underling that was cleaning the popping machine to actually help someone in line. She doesn't seem to appreciate the fact that she has a job, where as those that were working in the area seem to have appreciated my recognizing the fact they were doing all of the work. For the price of a ticket you would think that they would be more appreciative of your business and retaining it for future shows. I'll likely drive out of my way before returning. (Thursday night ticket seller - Common courtesy, please and thank you would be a start.) The theaters themselves are well maintained, but the bathrooms could use more than a quick cleaning.
